On May 20, 2026, the Norwalk Girls Golf team will play multiple different schools in the Class 4A-3 regional tournament. Tee times start at 10 a.m. The match will take place at the American Legion Post #46 Golf Course in Marshalltown, Iowa.
The opponents include: Ankeny Centennial, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Des Moines East, Des Moines Lincoln, Dowling Catholic, Fort Dodge, Johnston, Marshalltown (host), and Newton.
Des Moines East senior Saleah Vivanh-Vong leads the region in combined statistical average, with her score of 39.01 barely leading the second placed Prairie junior Kylie Wachtl (39.43). Norwalk junior Evelyn Kinney is in third with 40.44, while her senior teammate Addie Smith is behind her at 43.33. Rounding out the top five is Marshalltown sophomore Morgan Hilderbrand with a combined average of 44.39.
The rest of the top ten includes: Centennial junior Cate Trewet (44.75), Marshalltown senior Harper Wilson (44.83), Johnston sophomore Lily Bowersox (45.37), Dowling Catholic junior Margaret Lock (46.81), and Norwalk sophomore Sofia Stevens (46.89).
After the meet at Southeast Polk, Norwalk junior Evelyn Kinney reflected on her thoughts of the meet.
“It went really well, [I] took a lot of mistakes out there,” Kinney said. “[I could have] saved a lot of shots out there, but other than that, it was pretty solid.”
Kinney also stated that the putts were not the greatest that meet, but said that it was something to improve on.
Norwalk senior Addie Smith is another member of the girls golf team.
“As a team, we are all practicing every day,” Smith said when asked what will be done before regionals. “We are all working on the skills that we need to [work on].”
Norwalk junior Hayden Clausen also said similar things to Smith, but went more into depth.
“Going to the range a lot is a big thing for us to make sure that everything is ready,” Clausen said. “Practicing putting, chipping, just making sure that we’re ready.”
Both also stated that the team did a practice round at the American Legion golf course earlier on in the season.
The ranges are a great way to practice things like driving, chipping, and some courses have a practice putting green. Willow Creek is known for its practice greens in the range across the street.
Clausen said that she not only goes to Willow Creek’s range(s), but also to the Legacy located in town.
