With[In] The Blur[Red]: My Life Since Joining The Spear

Since joining the Norwalk Spear in 2023, I have had an exciting career in the world of high school journalism. I have done things that most couldn’t even fathom. I have taken photos of the Iowa Wild on two separate occasions, and I have met the likes of Iowa State football head coach Matt Campbell, among others.

If I had never taken this class, I think I would have still been confused about my future endeavors. Now that I have taken journalism, I can safely say that journalism will be my future consideration. To the future of the Norwalk Spear, I wish you well. Your contributions will greatly influence others to become journalists.

In 2026, I took pictures at the Norwalk girls’ basketball state tournament at the Casey’s Center.

Gavin Briar is a Junior at NHS and is in his second year of journalism. Briar says he joined journalism because of his interest in sportscasting and his hopes to join an ESPN panel after college. Outside of the newsroom Briar says he enjoys watching hockey and football as well as baseball. Briar has played baseball for about 12 years and is currently learning how to play hockey. “This year I’m looking forward to staying on top of my work and having fun, because it’s really all that matters.”
