Norwalk Girls Soccer To Host Newton In Conference, Home Opener
The (0-0) Norwalk Lady Warriors will host the (1-0) Newton Cardinals in the first home game of the new season. The game will be on Friday, Apr. 10 at 5:45 p.m.
GoBound has tracked all Iowa soccer events since 2011. Since then, the Lady Warriors and Cardinals have played each other 14 total times. Norwalk leads the series, 10-4. In fact, Norwalk hasn’t lost to Newton since 2017. In five of those years, the Warriors shut them out. Last season, both teams combined for a record of 20 wins, ten losses, and six ties.
Senior Alivia Ross leads Newton in total goals, scoring two in the win against Marshalltown. Sophomore Addyson Cibula played as goalkeeper in that same game, playing all 80 minutes and giving up two goals. This was Cibula’s tenth career win.
The Lady Warriors lost six seniors, including Ellie Dueland, Laikyn Popken, and Maya Butler. However, they make up this stat by returning all of their top five goal getters (Addy Wood, Avery Drymon, Olivia Welch, Pearl Brown, and Tatum Miller). They also return their goalkeepers in Elise Laman and Katie Liedtke.
Norwalk Boys Soccer Hosts Denison-Schleswig In Home Opener
The (1-0) Norwalk Warriors will host the (0-0) Denison-Schleswig Monarchs in the first home game of the new season. The game will be on Friday, Apr. 10 immediately following the girls game.
GoBound has tracked all Iowa soccer events since 2012. Since then, the Warriors and Monarchs have played each other four total times. The series is currently tied, 2-2. Norwalk has outscored Denison-Schleswig by a singular goal in all matchups. Last season, both teams combined for a record of 22 wins, 13 losses, and five ties.
Denison-Schleswig lost their leading goal scorer in the previous season, with it being Richard Gonzalez. Last season, Gonzalez recorded 14 goals, 18 assists, on a 19.4 shooting percentage. However, they return the remaining four of their top five scorers (senior Carlos Zamago and juniors Kevin Sanchez, Osvan Diaz, and Victor Menendez). Finally, the Monarchs lost their star goalkeeper in Sebastian Contreras.
Senior Eli Scavo leads Norwalk in total goals scored with three in the 6-0 win against Newton. Sophomore Nolan Fletcher and senior Teegan Kralik each notched two assists. Senior goalkeeper Jacoby Robbins saw 74 of the 80 total minutes, recording a shutout and didn’t even see a singular shot on goal!
