The class of 2026 is concluding its first semester as seniors at Norwalk High School. They are almost halfway through their last year here.
Paige Nichols is a senior at Norwalk and plans to attend Wayne State next fall. She said she has had a good experience throughout her first semester.
“So far it’s been a pretty good year, it’s felt short but long at the same time,” Paige said. “I don’t have to take many classes this year, which is good because I don’t feel like doing a bunch of work most days.”
Lilly Garvey plans to major in criminology, double major in ethics and public policy, and minor in computer sciences. Garvey said she has gained experience in the line of work she wants to pursue.
“I have taken internships that I have enjoyed and learned a lot from this year,” Garvey said. “I’ve also just talked with a lot of people who have majored in criminology.”
Garvey said many seniors have a reduced academic workload.
“Seniors don’t really take very many classes, and I only have two morning classes,” she said.
Senior year at Norwalk High School does not come with many requirements because most of the required classes are taken before senior year. This allows seniors to have more time to take electives, college classes, and internships.
Norwalk High School offers various opportunities to meet and work with people who are in your major, with a class that allows time during the school day to do your internship.
Along with internships, depending on your choice of major, there might be electives that are available at Norwalk High School or through DMACC.
Cambry Livingston said she has taken these opportunities
“I’ve taken electives and dmacc classes for my major, interior design,” she said.
Chloe Hermanstorfer said she feels prepared for her next chapter.
“Overall, I feel like the seniors have been set up really well for the next steps,” she said.
