Library to hold Super Smash Bros. Tournament

A Super Smash Bros. tournament will be held from 3 – 5:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 29, at the Norwalk Easter Public Library.

The winner will earn a gift card to GameStop and the event is for grades 6th-12th. Brackets for the tournament will be decided at the beginning so make sure to arrive on time. Participants in the tournament will earn a small prize.

Snacks and crafts will be provided and attendees can bring their Switch to use while not actively participating in the tournament. Information can be found at norwalklibrary.libcal.com/event/11045296. See below for more information on the movie screening.

Movie club to hold free screening of classic movie

Classic Film DSM will present “It Happened One Night” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Valley Community Center.

The film is 1 hour 45 minutes. Starring Frank Capra, this movie is a romantic comedy. There is no admission charge.

This watch party screens a movie about a woman who is stuck in relationship problems, who wants to go back to reunite with her old husband. She goes onto her rich father’s yacht to escape but is stopped on the ship by a news reporter who agrees to help her if she helps him.

Classic Film DSM screens movies every 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30 PM. This event includes free popcorn to all visitors of the event.

Sierra Sammons is a Sophomore at NHS and a first year Journalism student. When not in a classroom, she enjoys reading, drawing, and playing video games like Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Sammons said that she enjoys collecting snow globes. This started when her father would bring her snow globes of locations from trips he took, and eventually her friends started to bring her snow globes as well. When she asked why she joined journalism, she said “I wanted another class that's focus was art or writing, and so I could avoid gym class.”

Joe Ceretti is a Freshman at Norwalk High School and Staff Writer for The Spear. This is his first semester in journalism, and in his free time he likes to play basketball, football, and to skateboard. "An interesting fact about me is my favorite subject is math," he said. Joe said that he is inspired by this class and wants to take journalism classes in the future. After Joe graduates, he wants to create his own brand, as his goal in life is to become wealthy. "I joined journalism because it allows you to share information that helps people make better decisions about their lives and communities," he said.
