This year there are 10 girls on the Norwalk Girls Bowling Team. Nine of them are new bowlers and one of them is a returner.
Laila Whipperman is a freshman and she’s on the varsity team. She said she has some big goals for herself and the team this year.
“Probably going to state and winning or just getting super far into state,” she said.
Molly Olson is a freshman on varsity and is new to high school bowling this year. She said she also has goals for the team this year.
“To have everyone improve their spare pick up, following through, and hitting their marks,” she said.
Juliana Johnson is a freshman on the varsity team and is also new to high school bowling this year. A person she thinks that can help the team reach their goals is Eva Smith.
“She is the only returner from last year, and her being the only returner gives her more experience to help the nonreturners and the new people and to kind of figure it out,” she said.
Eva Smith also helps with the team culture and keeps the energy, according to Laila.
“She always brings everyone up in a match,” she said. “We have high fives, and she tells people when it’s their turn. Makes sure we are okay and she’s just a great person in general.”
Juliana said she also feels supported by the team and has learned through everyone on the team.
“You can’t let one bad ball get you down,” she said. “it’s not the end of the world if you get a bad game.”
Molly said that she thinks the team culture is good due to how everyone is there for each other.
“We all support each other and are kind to each other, and we try to include each other,” she said.
