Some Norwalk students choose to not only watch NFL football games, but play along through the game of fantasy football.
“It adds another dimension to the game,” Norwalk senior Blake Lee said. “I’m not just watching the game, I’m also following my players to keep track of their points.”
Fantasy football players begin each season with a draft, where they select NFL players that will score points for their fantasy team. Each week fantasy teams face one another and try to score more points than their opponents.
“Fantasy definitely makes casual watching hard to do,” Lee said. “I am always worried about how my team is doing and how my opponent’s team is doing.”
Norwalk senior Hunter Newberg says that he started playing fantasy football his freshman year.
“My friends and I created a league when we started high school, and it’s been something I’ve done every year since,“ said Newberg.
Newberg says that fantasy football is something that he and his brother can bond over.
“Me and my brother Drew are in the same league,” Newberg said. “Fantasy is something that both of us enjoy doing a lot, and it’s super fun to play for bragging rights.”
Norwalk senior Ethan Scavo says that his motivation to do well stems from trying to avoid the punishment that goes to the loser.
“I really am only doing so well because I am scared of whatever they are going to choose for the punishment,” said Scavo. “There have been talks of handcuffing the bottom two players together for a day, and I really don’t want to have to do that.”
Scavo said that last season’s punishment for their league was “The Milk Mile,” in which the loser would have to run a mile while stopping to drink a quarter gallon of milk every quarter mile.
“I think Isaac doing the mile was hilarious, but it definitely encouraged me to draft a good team for this season.”
