Artificial intelligence has become more prevalent than ever since the creation of ChatGPT in 2022, and with this rise of AI, some Norwalk students have started using it to help them in school.
“AI has been super helpful for studying,” said senior Sam Yoder. “I wouldn’t use it for writing a whole paper or anything, but it’s been nice for brainstorming.”
Yoder said that although there are some students who use AI inappropriately, he is not one of them.
“I don’t get why you would even try and get away with that type of stuff in 2025,” Yoder said. “There are so many checkers out there, and at this point the teachers can just tell right away if you use it.”
Yoder said AI has been beneficial for his studying.
“Sometimes I use it to help me make my study guides,” Yoder said. “It’s cool to be able to have it give me problems that I need help with the most.ยจ
Norwalk High School junior Maksym Rooney-Kozak says that he has never used AI for school work.
“It’s not something I was ever exposed to,” said Rooney Kozak. “I’m not really against using it, but I just don’t even know where I would start.
A survey done by the Digital Education Council shows that 86% of students have used AI, with another 54% of students saying they use it weekly.
“I see the hype around it for sure,” said Rooney-Kozak. “I don’t know if the morals are really there though.”
Rooney-Kozak said that he has seen a lot of AI used in his friend group.
“Pretty much every single person I am friends with uses it, and you can’t even blame them because it’s so convenient,” he said.
Senior Blake Lee says that he uses AI both in school and outside of school.
“It’s great for school to be able to answer some questions when I don’t have time to ask the teachers,” Lee said. ” When I’m not at school I can use it for like general issues or questions that I have like Google.
Lee said that AI has been a great resource for him during busy times of the school year.
“When I was doing wrestling I wouldn’t always have time to study like I wanted to, so I think AI helped me a lot with giving me problems to solve and condensing information,” Lee said.
Lee said he encourages students to give it a try.
“I think everyone should give it a try at some point, It’s a tutor that lives in your pocket.”
