If you’ve taken woods or construction classes at Norwalk High School, there is a good chance you know Mr. Voss.
“He’s a great teacher,” said Mason Bussanmas, senior at Norwalk.
Voss said he was an art teacher for 12 years, and then decided to switch to something else he enjoys doing, woodworking and construction, by becoming an industrial technology teacher. He said he enjoys watching students learn how to build things.
“What I like most is how fast the time goes by,” he said. “We start a class and we start building things. It just seems like the bell’s ringing right away, so it makes for a fast day.”
Voss said his favorite part of woodworking is carving on the lathe. He said it is fun seeing how you can make different objects from just spinning wood and a hand held tool.
“Using power tools, that’s the fun part,” Voss said.
Oliver Stanley, a senior at Norwalk, said he has taken every class offered by Voss, and he has learned a lot.
“He’s kind,” Stanley said. “He knows how to get things done, he’s good at teaching, and he’s also very lenient.”
Calvin Martin, a senior at Norwalk, said he has taken Construction and Construction Tech Trades with Voss. He said he has learned a lot about how to use power tools, especially ones you would find at a construction site.
“My favorite thing is that he gives you a lot of autonomy, especially during his construction classes where he basically just gives you what you need to do, and then you can go and do it however you need to as long as it’s safe,” Martin said.
Mason Bussanmas, a senior at Norwalk, said he has learned from Voss how to follow blueprints and how to always give 100 percent when working on a project. Bussanmas also said Voss is really fun.
“He’s got a great personality,” Bussanmas said. “He’s got a good sense of humor.”
