The World Series ended on Oct. 30, when the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.
“I thought the Dodgers did a good job of not necessarily their superstars stepping up, but everyone else stepping up,” said junior Brayden Plourde.
This is the Dodgers’ first championship since 2020 when they defeated the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays. It was the first World Series appearance for the Yankees since the 2009 season.
Younger fans drove a massive increase in viewership of the World Series, according to MLB.com. They reported that since the 2023 Fall Classic, there has been a jump of 93 percent among viewers aged 18-34. Game 1 registered over 15 million viewers in the United States alone.
Among those millions, some students at Norwalk High School also kept up with the series.
Kingston Lamb, junior, said a couple of weeks ago that he was expecting the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, which is what ended up happening.
“I just think that, between the depth of [both] lineups, and the starting rotations, I think that those are the two teams to make it out of their respective divisions,” said Lamb, who is a New York Mets fan.
When Lamb was asked who was the team that had improved the most throughout the season, he chose the Mets.
“They started off as one of the worst teams at one point. They had a three percent chance of making the playoffs,” he said.
The 2024 World Series MVP went to Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman. He is the only player in baseball history to hit a walk-off grand slam in the Fall Classic.
“I thought that it was well-earned for Freddie Freeman, who had been injured in the two previous postseason series,” junior Eli Geisler said. “There were other guys like Blake Treinen in the bullpen and Yoshinobu Yamamoto who started Game 2. But, I don’t think the Dodgers would’ve won the series without Freeman.”
Geisler said that he thought the 2024 World Series was a pretty good matchup overall.
“I think the Dodgers proved [that] they were the better team, and they’re going to be a threat next season and in the seasons to come,” he said.
