Kasey Ludlow joined Journalism for the first time his senior year. The next summer, he worked as a paid freelance journalist for the Indianola Independent Advocate.
“It’s a great way to develop writing skills, and can help you find job opportunities,” he said.
Journalism and Yearbook are both classes offered for all Norwalk High School students who are interested. Journalism is available exclusively during third period, and Yearbook is available during sixth hour.
Sami Aagard is a freshman at Iowa State University, and is studying horticulture. She took Yearbook class during her senior year at Norwalk, and quit after she graduated. One way it helped her was through developing her interviewing and talking skills.
“It was so fun. I loved being able to interview people who don’t always get appreciated. I really liked how I was able to put people into the spotlight for the things they are good at,” she said.
Claire Boswell is a freshman at Iowa State University, and is studying elementary education. She took Yearbook during her senior year at Norwalk, and quit when she graduated. One way she said Yearbook helped her was through helping her develop photography and design skills.
“So fun. I get to try new things like photography, writing and design.” said Claire Boswell. “You get to be creative and work on a historic project like yearbooks.”
Kasey Ludlow is a freshman at the University of Iowa. Kasey considered majoring in Journalism, but chose to major in just data analytics.
“Journalism helped me to grow as a student and gave me a great experience of how to work together as a team. The skills I learned in Journalism directly contributed to what I do in college with deadlines and working with others,” he said.
